How to Get Your Company Mentioned by ChatGPT

There is no submission form, no paid listing, and no rep to call. ChatGPT mentions companies whose public record makes them impossible to miss. Here is how that record gets built.

The short answer

ChatGPT mentions companies it can identify clearly and verify across multiple independent sources. That means a consistent description of what you do, real third-party coverage, structured pages that machines can parse, and enough topical depth that the model associates your name with your category. No single tactic does it. The combination does.

What the model is actually doing

When someone asks an AI assistant "who are the best companies for X," the model is not running an auction. It is synthesizing an answer from training data and, increasingly, from live web retrieval. Companies that show up in that answer tend to share the same traits: they are described the same way everywhere, they are covered by sources the model treats as credible, and they appear repeatedly in the context of the category being asked about.

We covered how that synthesis works in AI Answer Visibility. This guide is about the inputs you control.

The five signals that get companies mentioned

1. A clean, consistent entity

Your company name, category, and one-line description should be identical on your website, your LinkedIn page, your press coverage, and every directory that matters. Models pattern-match for consensus. If half the web calls you a "cybersecurity platform" and the other half calls you a "risk consultancy," you have split your own signal.

2. Structured data on your own site

Organization, Service, and Article schema tell machines exactly who you are without guessing. It is cheap, it is fast, and most competitors skip it. See Schema and Structured Data for the practical version.

3. Third-party coverage in sources the model trusts

Your own website is one vote, and models know it is a biased one. Independent articles, interviews, and citations are the votes that count. This is where press placements stop being a vanity purchase and start being machine-readable evidence.

4. A podcast and video footprint

Podcast interviews create transcripts, episode pages, YouTube descriptions, and guest bios, all of it text that repeats your name next to your topic. That repetition is exactly what entity association is made of. The mechanics are in Do Podcasts Help You Rank in AI Search? and Podcast Footprint.

5. Topical depth on the questions buyers ask

If you want to be the answer to "best endpoint security for mid-market," something on the public web needs to connect your company to that exact question, more than once. That is topical authority, and it compounds.

What does not work

  • One press release on a wire. Syndicated copies of one document are one source repeated, not many sources agreeing. More on that in Does ChatGPT Read Press Releases?
  • Keyword-stuffing your own site. The model discounts self-description that nothing else confirms.
  • Waiting. The companies being recommended today started building this record quarters ago.

How long it takes

Entity fixes and schema are measurable in weeks. Coverage and podcast footprints build over one to two quarters. Models refresh at different speeds, and answers shift as the web shifts, which is why monitoring the answer matters as much as building it.
