PR Newswire vs GlobeNewswire: Which Is Better for Distributing a Company Press Release in 2026?

Neither wire publishes a price, so the choice turns on what you need around the release. GlobeNewswire is the better fit for listed companies that want SEC, Canadian and European filing help from the same vendor, and for teams that want a self-service option, CLEAR identity verification and AI-citation analytics included with every release. PR Newswire wins on stated reach and on add-ons such as guaranteed paid placement, SocialBoost, media tours and ProfNet. On links and AI crawlers the two are level. Equiniti, which owns GlobeNewswire's parent Notified, has agreed to be sold to Bullish.

  • Neither publishes a price (checked October 8, 2026). PR Newswire says costs vary by scope, reach and add-ons; GlobeNewswire says pricing depends on distribution requirements, reach and service package.
  • Ownership, verified October 8, 2026: PR Newswire belongs to Cision, a Platinum Equity portfolio company since January 2020. GlobeNewswire belongs to Notified, which Equiniti bought from West Technology Group in May 2025. Equiniti is owned by Siris Capital, and Bullish (NYSE: BLSH) has agreed to buy it, with closing expected in early 2027.
  • Reach figures use different units: PR Newswire cites 440,000+ “newsrooms, websites, direct feeds, journalists and influencers”; GlobeNewswire cites 1,000+ distribution circuits in 158 countries. They cannot be compared directly.
  • GlobeNewswire documents more filing services: EDGAR Direct, EDGAR Complete, Section 16, SEDAR, XBRL and European Regulatory News.
  • Links pass no ranking credit on either wire. Our October 8, 2026 check of 70 GlobeNewswire releases found 46 external body links, all rel="nofollow"; our September check of 70 PR Newswire releases found the same for all 19.
  • Both sell AI visibility. Neither blocks AI crawlers, and neither publishes evidence a buyer can use to verify a citation rate.

What Is PR Newswire?

PR Newswire is a paid press release distribution service, founded in 1954 and owned by Cision, that sends client releases to media, websites, feeds and journalists and sells amplification and reporting tools around them.

PR Newswire's About page gives the founding year and says Cision acquired it in 2015. Releases are sold through the PR Newswire Amplify platform, which also holds AI drafting tools, reporting and the paid add-ons listed on its All Products page.

What Is GlobeNewswire?

GlobeNewswire is a paid press release and financial disclosure distribution service, operated by Notified, a part of Equiniti, that delivers company announcements to media, investors, financial platforms and online channels in 158 countries.

GlobeNewswire's About page calls it “the global distribution engine within Notified” and says “Notified is part of Equiniti”. The site footer names the legal entity as Digital Media Innovations, LLC. GlobeNewswire says it has served clients for more than 30 years (its FAQ says “nearly 30-year history”), and that more than 11,000 organizations use GlobeNewswire and Notified.

PR Newswire vs GlobeNewswire: Pricing

Neither PR Newswire nor GlobeNewswire publishes a press release price. PR Newswire's distribution page says “Costs vary based on distribution scope, geographic reach and additional services such as multimedia, targeting and amplification channels.” GlobeNewswire's FAQ says pricing “depends on your distribution requirements, geographic reach, and service package” and sends buyers to sales. Pricing checked October 2026.

With no list price on either side, get written quotes for the same release: same word count, same circuit, same multimedia and the same reporting. Ask GlobeNewswire whether the quote is for a Full-Service or self-service release, because its FAQ says editorial review varies by the option you choose.

Ownership: Who Owns Each Wire in October 2026

PR Newswire is owned by Cision, which is owned by Platinum Equity. GlobeNewswire is owned by Notified, which Equiniti bought from West Technology Group on May 1, 2025; Equiniti is owned by Siris Capital. On May 5, 2026, Bullish agreed to buy Equiniti. Bullish said in August 2026 that the deal is expected to close in early 2027, so it had not closed when we checked on October 8, 2026.

PR Newswire. PR Newswire's About page says it was “acquired by Cision in 2015”. Platinum Equity's portfolio page lists Cision as an active investment, “Acquired from public shareholders in January 2020”. Cision's press releases for November 2025 to August 2026 announce products, research and the December 2025 acquisition of Trajaan, but no change of ownership.

GlobeNewswire. The chain has more links, and one of them is moving:

August 13, 2026Bullish says the acquisition is “on track” and expected to close in early 2027Bullish Q2 2026 results, Form 6-K

Notified is not one of the three carved-out lines, and on Bullish's May 5 investor call chief executive Tom Farley said “Equiniti's existing investor relations and public relations capabilities will only further strengthen that offering” (call transcript filed on Form 6-K). The Bullish filings and announcement we read describe the purchase of Equiniti as a whole, less those three lines; none of them names Notified or GlobeNewswire. The May 5 announcement says Equiniti “will operate under the Bullish umbrella alongside Bullish Exchange and CoinDesk” and that Equiniti's CEO and leadership team will retain responsibility for day-to-day operations. No company involved has announced any change to GlobeNewswire itself. GlobeNewswire's own pages, and Equiniti's brands page (“Notified, an EQ company”), describe the current structure only.

Why it matters to a buyer: ownership shapes the product mix more than the quality of a single release. Cision sells monitoring and media databases alongside PR Newswire. Equiniti is a transfer agent and shareholder-services firm, which fits GlobeNewswire's emphasis on disclosure. If you sign a multi-year contract with GlobeNewswire before the deal closes, ask how assignment and terms are handled on a change of control.

Distribution Networks and Targeting

PR Newswire claims reach to 440,000+ newsrooms, websites, direct feeds, journalists and influencers. GlobeNewswire claims 1,000+ distribution circuits in 158 countries and 35+ languages. One counts recipients and the other counts circuits, and neither vendor publishes the list behind its figure, so a bigger number does not show a bigger network.

Vendor claims we could not verify. PR Newswire's figures describe targeting options; GlobeNewswire's describe where its distribution reaches.

PR Newswire's distribution page breaks its figure into 270,000+ journalists and influencers and 9,000+ websites and digital media outlets, and describes targeting by country (170+ in 40+ languages), state or province, region, city, industry, vertical, beat and demographics. GlobeNewswire's international distribution page names the outlets on its U.S. national circuit, including the Associated Press, Bloomberg, CNBC, CNN, Dow Jones, USA Today, the Wall Street Journal and Yahoo! Finance, plus a strategic alliance with The Canadian Press for the CP Wire Network and French-language options in Canada. It also lists European partners by country, such as Boursorama and Agence France-Presse in France and Financial Times and Morningstar UK in the UK.

GlobeNewswire's news feed page lists media partners that receive its feed, including Yahoo! Finance, Bloomberg, Dow Jones Newswires, Factiva, LexisNexis, MarketWatch and The Canadian Press, alongside many small aggregator and blog sites. A listed partner receives the feed; it does not mean that partner will publish or keep your release. Our study of where wire releases actually end up found partner copies of PR Newswire releases deleted after about 90 days on Morningstar; we could not measure GlobeNewswire's partners in that study because its server refused our client.

GlobeNewswire also offers an “online (search and AI) only” distribution option, which its About page FAQ lists alongside global, local, trade and financial options. PR Newswire's pages that we read do not describe an online-only tier by that name.

Regulatory Disclosure and Investor Relations

GlobeNewswire documents more filing services than PR Newswire does. Its regulatory filings page lists EDGAR Direct (filing the wire version of a release with the SEC on Form 8-K or 6-K), EDGAR Complete, Section 16 forms, SEDAR filing, XBRL conversion and a European Regulatory News service it says is “approved by financial regulators in the UK and France.” PR Newswire documents disclosure networks, IR websites, webcasts and investor targeting.

PR Newswire's IR solutions page says it publishes financial news to 6,400+ financial, news and research websites “via PR Newswire's comprehensive full disclosure networks”, and sells investor targeting through “Market Lists, powered by Irwin”, plus webcasts and IR websites. Its financial services FAQ says: “Companies should determine their own regulatory filing and disclosure requirements and use PR Newswire as part of their broader disclosure process.” Our PR Newswire vs Business Wire comparison also notes that PR Newswire's Canadian site describes a regulatory filing service.

Notified sells IR websites, webcasting and earnings events through its separate IR Hub platform, which GlobeNewswire's services page links to. Whether a given release satisfies Regulation FD or a European disclosure rule is the issuer's legal judgment, not the wire's.

Onboarding, Editorial Review and Verification

GlobeNewswire publishes more about how a new account is set up. Its FAQ says application reviews “typically take up to 4 business hours” and may ask for business registration or a sample release. PR Newswire says releases can be distributed “within hours of approval” once an account exists, and its sign-up form offers the option “I am ready to send my release within 48 hours”.

Both wires have editors. PR Newswire says its 24/7/365 editorial team “proofreads every news release” for grammar, spelling, broken links and tagging, and that it reviews over 325,000 releases a year. GlobeNewswire offers full-service and self-service releases; its FAQ says “Full-Service offerings include access to GlobeNewswire's 24/7/365 editorial team”. If you choose self-service, confirm what review you are buying.

GlobeNewswire adds an identity check PR Newswire does not document: CLEAR verification. Its CLEAR page says a CLEAR badge on a release “confirms that a verified identity has published the press release”, that the option is available to customers in the United States and Canada, and that senders can use it on all releases or only sensitive ones. That matters for any company worried about fake releases issued in its name. Neither wire writes your release: GlobeNewswire says plainly that its team does not, and both sell AI drafting tools instead (see our guide on how to write a press release).

Reporting and AI-Citation Analytics

GlobeNewswire includes AI-citation reporting with every release; PR Newswire sells its fullest AI-visibility report separately. GlobeNewswire's FAQ says Newswire Analytics, including “AI citation tracking powered by Profound”, is “a no-charge value-added benefit with every distribution.” PR Newswire's report module shows how many visits to a release came from LLMs, and a separate AEO & GEO Brand Report, powered by Cision's Trajaan, tracks how AI models describe your brand.

GlobeNewswire's PR reporting page says Newswire Analytics covers readership, engagement, placements, link activity and “AI citation visibility signals such as citation, indexing, and training metrics where available.” PR Newswire's Report Results page describes pickup, traffic, engagement and audience metrics. Neither vendor explains on these pages how its AI figures are collected well enough for a buyer to check them. A wire's report also only covers the release itself; to see what assistants say about your company more broadly, use our guide to checking what AI says about your company.

AI and Answer-Engine Claims Each Vendor Makes

Both wires now sell press releases as a route into AI answers, and the statements below are vendor claims, not findings. PR Newswire says it helps “AI platforms like ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Perplexity see, find and cite your press releases.” GlobeNewswire says it optimizes every release for search and answer engines and has built a “SOAR Content Framework” (Structure, Originality, Authority, Recency) from its own research.

What PR Newswire says (AEO and GEO page, AI press release page):

  • It “injects press releases with JSON-LD schema”.
  • It “automatically adds proper indexing features like canonical links and syndicated tags”.
  • Distributing through its domain means “AI models categorize your news as a verified primary source”.
  • Its drafting tool is “powered by Google Gemini Enterprise”, and its Press Release Score rates drafts before distribution.

What GlobeNewswire says (FAQ, AI generator page, contact page):

  • It optimizes every release “by embedding structured metadata, rich content formatting, and relevant keywords.”
  • Its AI Press Release Generator “uses OpenAI through Microsoft Azure within Notified's secure environment”, and an AI Press Release Optimizer suggests edits before distribution.
  • It publishes uplift figures from its own studies of hundreds of thousands of releases. We did not assess those studies, so we do not repeat the numbers.

What our research adds: the claim that matters most to a company is whether an assistant actually reads and repeats a release, and a release is the company describing itself. Our explainer does ChatGPT read press releases sets out what is known. Independent coverage carries more weight than a wire copy, on either wire.

What Happens After the Wire: Links, Canonicals and AI Crawlers

On the technical facts we could check, PR Newswire and GlobeNewswire behave the same way. On October 8, 2026 we parsed 70 GlobeNewswire releases: 10 contained external links in the release body, and all 46 of those links carried rel="nofollow". Every page's canonical tag pointed to its own GlobeNewswire URL. PR Newswire showed the same nofollow pattern in our September sample.

CheckPR NewswireGlobeNewswire
External links in release body19 links in 8 of 70 releases, all nofollow (September 24, 2026)46 links in 10 of 70 releases, all nofollow, linking directly to the destination (October 8, 2026)
Canonical on the wire's own pagePoints to itself (one release inspected, September 2026)Points to its own GlobeNewswire URL (70 of 70)
AI crawlers named in robots.txtNone; one wildcard group (checked October 8, 2026)None; wildcard group with an explicit Allow: /news-release/ (checked October 8, 2026)
llms.txtPublishedNot published (the address returned GlobeNewswire's 404 page)

The PR Newswire rows reuse our wire nofollow study, which could not sample GlobeNewswire at the time because its newsroom returned no release links to our client. This time we read GlobeNewswire in an ordinary desktop browser and took releases from its own October 2026 English news sitemap. A nofollowed link still works for readers who click it. Our September 2026 robots.txt study of the wires found the same crawler pattern on both.

Add-Ons: Paid Placement, Social and Multimedia

PR Newswire lists more add-ons in one place. Its products page includes Guaranteed Paid Placement, SocialBoost, media tours, ProfNet and webcasts, and its multimedia page says 4,000+ downstream sites display images and video from its releases. GlobeNewswire sells Syndicated Articles, multimedia, translation, a media contacts database and social listening through Notified.

GlobeNewswire describes Syndicated Articles as journalist-style articles with “guaranteed earned media placements” (services page). A placement guaranteed in advance is bought, not chosen by an editor, so treat it like PR Newswire's Guaranteed Paid Placement and check how the host site labels it. GlobeNewswire's distribution page says releases can carry images, infographics, PDFs, audio and video. PR Newswire's multimedia page adds AI-generated images and short videos through Create+ and Snapshot Video.

Where PR Newswire Wins

  • Breadth of amplification add-ons: guaranteed paid placement, SocialBoost, media tours, ProfNet and webcasts on one products page.
  • Stated reach: a larger headline audience figure, and named counts of journalists and websites.
  • Multimedia creation: Create+ and Snapshot Video inside the same platform.
  • Machine-readable signals: a published llms.txt and stated JSON-LD on every release.
  • Investor targeting: Market Lists powered by Irwin.

Where GlobeNewswire Wins

  • Filing services from the same vendor: EDGAR Direct, EDGAR Complete, Section 16, SEDAR, XBRL and European Regulatory News.
  • Identity verification: CLEAR badges for senders in the U.S. and Canada.
  • AI-citation reporting included: Profound-powered citation data in Newswire Analytics at no extra charge.
  • Documented onboarding: a stated review time and both full-service and self-service options.
  • Named outlets: its international page lists the outlets and partners on each regional circuit.

Who Should Choose PR Newswire?

Choose PR Newswire if: the release is the start of a campaign and you want one vendor for distribution, paid placement, social, media tours and multimedia, and you are comfortable getting a price through sales.

Avoid PR Newswire if: you need EDGAR, SEDAR or European regulatory filing from your wire vendor, or you want AI-citation reporting included in the release price.

Best for: brand and agency teams running a multi-channel launch.
Starting price: not published (checked October 2026).
Primary strength: the widest set of amplification and content add-ons in one platform.
Main limitation: no public pricing; filing services are less documented than GlobeNewswire's.
Verdict: the stronger choice when you want the release amplified, not just distributed.

Who Should Choose GlobeNewswire?

Choose GlobeNewswire if: you are a listed company that wants distribution and SEC, Canadian or European filing support in one account, you want CLEAR verification on sensitive releases, or you want a self-service option with AI-citation analytics included.

Avoid GlobeNewswire if: you need a published price, or you are unwilling to sign a long contract while its parent company's sale to Bullish is pending.

Best for: public companies and IR teams; PR teams that want verification and reporting built in.
Starting price: not published (checked October 2026).
Primary strength: distribution, filing and identity verification under one vendor.
Main limitation: no public pricing; ownership change expected in early 2027.
Verdict: the stronger choice when disclosure and verification matter more than amplification.

How to Choose Between PR Newswire and GlobeNewswire

If you need...Choose

A report on how AI models describe your brand overallPR Newswire (AEO & GEO Brand Report, sold separately)
Links that pass ranking creditNeither; both nofollow body links
Ownership stability over a long contractPR Newswire has no announced change; GlobeNewswire's parent sale is pending

Final Verdict: PR Newswire or GlobeNewswire?

For a listed company, choose GlobeNewswire: it documents the filing services, identity verification and AI-citation reporting a disclosure-driven team needs, all in one account. For a brand or agency launch, choose PR Newswire: it sells more ways to push a release past the wire itself. The decision depends on three things: whether you need filing help, whether you will buy amplification add-ons, and the two quotes you get, because neither wire publishes a price. Neither choice changes how search engines treat your links or guarantees an AI citation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who owns GlobeNewswire in 2026?

GlobeNewswire is part of Notified, which Equiniti (EQ) bought from West Technology Group in a deal completed on May 1, 2025. Equiniti is owned by Siris Capital. On May 5, 2026, Bullish (NYSE: BLSH) agreed to buy Equiniti; Bullish said in August 2026 the deal is expected to close in early 2027. Until the deal closes, Siris-owned Equiniti remains the owner.

Who owns PR Newswire in 2026?

PR Newswire is owned by Cision, which acquired it in 2015 according to PR Newswire's About page. Cision is a Platinum Equity portfolio company: Platinum Equity's site lists the investment as active and says Cision was acquired from public shareholders in January 2020.

How much does a GlobeNewswire press release cost?

GlobeNewswire does not publish a price. Its FAQ says pricing depends on your distribution requirements, geographic reach and service package, and directs you to its sales team. Its EDGAR Direct filing service is described as flat-rate, but the rate is not published. Pricing checked October 2026.

How much does PR Newswire charge?

PR Newswire does not publish a price either. Its distribution page says costs vary based on distribution scope, geographic reach and additional services such as multimedia, targeting and amplification channels. You get a figure through sales or by creating an account. Pricing checked October 2026.

Will the Bullish deal change GlobeNewswire?

Nobody outside the companies can say yet. Bullish has said Equiniti will operate under the Bullish umbrella with its current leadership. An affiliate of Siris has exercised an option to acquire three non-core Equiniti lines (EQ Retirement Solutions, EQ Customer Resolutions and Lenvi); Notified is not on that list. The Bullish filings we read do not name Notified or GlobeNewswire, and no change to GlobeNewswire has been announced.

Do GlobeNewswire or PR Newswire links pass SEO value?

Not on our samples. In 70 GlobeNewswire releases checked on October 8, 2026, all 46 external links in release bodies carried rel="nofollow". In 70 PR Newswire releases checked in September 2026, all 19 external body links carried rel="nofollow". Nofollowed links still send readers who click them.

Does either wire block AI crawlers?

No. On October 8, 2026, neither robots.txt named any AI crawler. GlobeNewswire's file includes an explicit Allow: /news-release/ line. PR Newswire publishes an llms.txt file; GlobeNewswire's llms.txt address returned its 404 page.

Which wire is better for SEC or European regulatory filings?

GlobeNewswire documents more filing services on its own pages: EDGAR Direct for filing a release on Form 8-K or 6-K, EDGAR Complete, Section 16 forms, SEDAR, XBRL and a European Regulatory News service it says is approved by regulators in the UK and France. PR Newswire documents disclosure networks and IR tools, and says companies should determine their own filing requirements.

Can I send a GlobeNewswire release myself, without an editor?

Yes. GlobeNewswire says it offers full-service and self-service options. Its FAQ says Full-Service offerings include review by its 24/7/365 editorial team, and that review services vary by the distribution solution you choose.

Can either wire guarantee my release is cited by ChatGPT or Google?

No. Both market AI visibility, and GlobeNewswire now reports AI citation data from Profound, but neither publishes a method that lets a buyer verify citation rates, and neither controls how AI systems choose sources.

How We Compared PR Newswire and GlobeNewswire

Criteria: published pricing, ownership, distribution network claims, targeting, regulatory disclosure, onboarding and editorial review, verification, reporting, AI claims, link and crawler behavior, and add-ons. When: all vendor and ownership pages were read on October 8, 2026. How: PR Newswire, Cision, Equiniti, Siris and Platinum Equity pages were fetched with a standard HTTP client. GlobeNewswire refused that client (its server reset the connection), as in our earlier studies, so we read its pages and robots.txt in an ordinary desktop browser without signing in. SEC filings were read on sec.gov.

Ownership: checked against the acquirers' and owners' own announcements, the private-equity owners' portfolio pages and Bullish's SEC filings, not only the vendors' pages. Where the Bullish deal is pending, we report what the filings say and do not predict the outcome.

Our own measurement: on October 8, 2026 we took every 45th URL, starting with the first, from GlobeNewswire's English news sitemap for October 2026 (3,186 entries, October 1 to 8), giving 70 releases. In each, we counted anchors inside the release body that pointed off globenewswire.com and recorded their rel values and the page's canonical tag. One canonical differed from the requested URL only in character encoding; we counted it as self-referencing. PR Newswire link figures come from our September 2026 study and were not re-run; its robots.txt and llms.txt were re-checked on October 8.

Limitations: we did not buy a release from either wire, request a quote, test turnaround, use either dashboard or contact support. Reach figures, AI-citation counts and uplift figures are vendor claims we could not verify. Testimonials on both sites were chosen by the vendors. Prices, features and, in GlobeNewswire's case, ownership may change; this comparison describes public pages and filings as of October 8, 2026.
