What Are the Best Alternatives to Buzzsprout in 2026?
Five hosts we could verify on their own pages are the main alternatives: Spotify for Creators, Libsyn, Podbean, Captivate and Transistor. All publish an RSS feed that podcast apps read; they differ in what they cap, how they bill and what is included. The table uses monthly-billing prices so the figures compare like for like, with annual prices where the host publishes them.
| Host | Entry price, monthly billing | Entry price, billed annually | What the entry plan caps | Free option | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Buzzsprout | $18 a month | $15 a month | 6 upload hours a month (72 a year on annual) | Free plan: 2 hours a month, episodes hosted 90 days | Buzzsprout pricing |
| Spotify for Creators | Free | Free | No paid plan | Free hosting | Spotify Support |
| Libsyn | $12 a month | Not listed | 3 hours of audio a month | 30-day trial, card required | Libsyn pricing |

What Do Buzzsprout and Its Alternatives Cost?
On monthly billing, paid entry plans fall in a narrow $12 to $19 band: Libsyn $12, Podbean $17, Buzzsprout $18, Captivate and Transistor $19. Spotify for Creators charges nothing for hosting. Billed annually, Podbean ($12), Buzzsprout ($15) and Captivate ($17) are cheaper still.

All paid figures are monthly-billing prices. Billed annually: Buzzsprout $15, Captivate $17, Podbean $12 a month; Transistor offers “12 months for the price of 10” without listing annual prices; Libsyn lists monthly billing only. Libsyn shows “$” without naming a currency. The plans cap different things, so the lowest price is not the best value for every show.
Because prices sit so close together, caps matter more than price. Our reading, not a vendor claim: estimate your monthly audio hours and your monthly downloads before choosing, because a host that caps hours can cost more for a daily show, and a host that caps downloads can cost more for a show that grows.
What Is Buzzsprout, and Where Does It Still Win?
Buzzsprout is a podcast host priced by upload hours, with a free tier. On monthly billing it lists Audio ($18 a month, 6 upload hours a month), Audio + Video ($30, adding “Publish video on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube” at 1080p) and Multi-Podcast ($36, 15 hours a month shared across up to 5 or 10 shows). Billed annually the same plans are $15, $25 and $30 a month, with 72, 72 and 180 upload hours a year. A $5-a-month Archive plan “keeps your podcast live without new uploads” (Buzzsprout pricing).
It wins for a single show that publishes steadily and wants no download meter: the pricing page states no download cap. It also says “Buzzsprout automatically creates transcripts for new episodes on all current paid plans at no additional cost.” Its limits, from the same page: “Unused upload hours don’t roll over to the next month or year,” extra upload time is billed at the plan’s hourly rate (the rate is not shown), and Free-plan episodes are hosted for only 90 days. Is Spotify for Creators a Free Alternative to Buzzsprout?
Yes for hosting. Spotify’s support page says Spotify for Creators is “a great way to host and distribute your show to Spotify and other platforms,” to “learn about and interact with your audience, and monetize your show - all for free” (Spotify Support).
Fits: a show whose audience is mainly on Spotify and whose budget is zero. Where Buzzsprout is better: a published, predictable product built around distribution to every major app rather than one platform. Our Buzzsprout vs Spotify for Creators comparison covers distribution, monetization and leaving each host, and Spotify Partner Program vs YouTube Partner Program covers Spotify’s monetization.
What Does Libsyn Offer?
Libsyn prices by monthly audio hours and has the lowest published monthly entry price here. Basic is $12 a month (3 hours of audio), Advanced $25 (10 hours) and Max $150 (55 hours); all include video uploads up to 100GB a month, and the page says you can “Add up to five users to each podcast.” Spotify and YouTube video distribution is listed on Advanced and Max but not on Basic (Libsyn pricing).
All plans start with a 30-day free trial; a credit card is required, and you are not charged until it ends. Professional and Enterprise tiers are quote-only. The page shows “$” without naming a currency. Fits: budget shows, and video shows from Advanced up. Limit: 3 hours a month on Basic is tight for a weekly hour-long show.
How Does Podbean Compare?
Podbean has a free account and paid plans priced by monthly upload gigabytes. Unlimited Audio is $17 a month on monthly billing or $12 billed annually (1GB a month, about 16 hours of audio); Unlimited Plus is $39 or $29 (10GB, 160 hours of audio or 10 hours of video); Network is $99 or $79 and Business $129 or $99, both 40GB (Podbean pricing).
The FAQ says unlimited storage and unmetered bandwidth are “subject to Podbean’s Fair Usage Policy,” and that “paid plans cannot be downgraded back to the free plan.” The pricing page does not list the free account’s limits. Fits: shows that want a free start and the lowest annual entry price here.
What Does Captivate Offer?
Captivate prices only by monthly downloads; every plan has every feature. Personal is $19 a month paid monthly or $17 paid yearly (30,000 downloads a month), Professional $49 or $44 (150,000) and Business $99 or $90 (300,000). Its FAQ answers whether features are restricted with “No, all plans have access to all features within the platform, nothing is restricted,” and all plans include unlimited podcasts, unlimited uploads and storage, and “Advanced, IAB certified analytics” (Captivate pricing).
Captivate offers a “no-obligation, 30-day free trial,” says it will not take a show offline for exceeding its limit, and offers students, educational organizations, registered charities and non-profits 25% off. Fits: shows that publish a lot of audio but have modest downloads.
Is Transistor a Good Buzzsprout Alternative?
Transistor suits multi-show publishers, because every plan includes unlimited podcasts and team members and is priced by downloads. Starter is $19 a month (20K downloads, 50 private subscribers), Professional $49 (100K downloads, dynamic ads, auto-posting to YouTube) and Business $99 (250K downloads, branding removal), with a 14-day free trial. Yearly billing is “12 months for the price of 10”; annual prices are not listed (Transistor pricing).
The FAQ says there is no “automatic shut off” if a show exceeds its download limit; Transistor contacts customers who consistently go over. Transcription is listed as an add-on with no price shown. Fits: networks and companies running several shows. Limit: the highest monthly entry price here, tied with Captivate.
Where Is Buzzsprout Still the Better Choice?
Buzzsprout is still the better choice for a first show or a single company podcast that wants a free plan to start, no download meter and video distribution to Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube on one plan. Download-priced hosts (Captivate, Transistor) can cost more if a show grows quickly; hour-priced Libsyn Basic offers half Buzzsprout’s monthly upload hours. Buzzsprout is weaker for daily or multi-hour shows, where Captivate’s and Transistor’s unlimited uploads are worth more.
Who Should Choose Which?
| If you are... | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Testing whether to launch | Spotify for Creators, Podbean free or Buzzsprout Free | No cost; Buzzsprout Free keeps episodes 90 days |
| A new weekly show | Buzzsprout Audio or Libsyn Basic | Hour-based plans sized for a few episodes a month |
| A daily or long-form show | Captivate or Transistor | Unlimited uploads; priced by downloads |
| A network or multi-show company | Transistor | Unlimited podcasts and team members on every plan |
| A video podcast | Buzzsprout Audio + Video, Libsyn Advanced or Podbean Unlimited Plus | Video distribution or video hours listed |
This is our recommendation, not any vendor’s claim. A host does not get a show booked or ranked; for where a feed must be submitted, see How to Submit a Podcast to Apple, Spotify and YouTube.
Final Verdict: Which Buzzsprout Alternative Is Best?
There is no single winner. Spotify for Creators is the free option; Libsyn has the lowest published monthly price; Podbean the lowest annual one; Captivate and Transistor suit shows that publish a lot or run several feeds. Buzzsprout keeps its edge for a single show that wants hour-based pricing with no download meter.
