What Are the Best Alternatives to Libsyn?
The five alternatives we could verify on their own pages are Podbean, Captivate, Transistor, RSS.com and Buzzsprout. They cover a free plan with no expiration (RSS.com), another upload-hour host (Buzzsprout), download-capped hosts (Captivate, Transistor) and a gigabyte-capped host (Podbean).
Libsyn (short for Liberated Syndication) is one of the alternatives in Best Alternatives to Buzzsprout, which compares the same market from Buzzsprout’s side and adds Spotify for Creators; see also Buzzsprout vs Spotify for Creators. This guide keeps Libsyn as the reference point and asks a narrower question: which cap will your show hit first?
Libsyn vs the Alternatives at a Glance

What Is Libsyn, and What Does It Cost?
Libsyn is a podcast host whose plans are priced by the hours of audio you upload each month: Basic $12 for 3 hours, Advanced $25 for 10 hours and Max $150 for 55 hours, all “Billed monthly after free trial” (Libsyn pricing). Its FAQ says “A credit card is needed to start your free trial, but you won’t be charged until the 30-day trial ends.”
All plans include audio and video hosting, multi-user access, IAB-verified analytics, a customizable website and monetization options. Basic includes YouTube video distribution; Advanced and Max add Spotify video distribution; Apple HLS video is listed as “Coming Soon.” An “$8 Plan for the bare essentials” is mentioned without details. Professional and Enterprise plans are by contact and list “Dynamic Ad Insertion, API access, concierge-level onboarding,” unlimited storage and a network RSS feed. The page also lists PodRoll and Automatic Podcast Ads and says “We’ve paid out over $112 million since 2017 to podcast creators,” a vendor claim.
What Do Libsyn and Its Alternatives Cost?

US dollars per month, monthly billing
Source: RSS.com, Captivate, Transistor, Buzzsprout, Podbean and Libsyn pricing pages. Read October 21, 2026.
All figures are monthly-billing prices. Billed annually: Podbean $12, Buzzsprout $15, RSS.com $15 and Captivate $17 a month; Transistor gives “12 months for the price of 10”; Libsyn lists monthly billing only. Plans are not equivalent: each caps a different unit. Free plans (RSS.com, Buzzsprout, Podbean) are not charted.
The chart shows a band of under $8 across entry plans, which is why the cap matters more than the price: Libsyn’s $12 buys 3 hours of new audio a month, while Podbean’s $17 buys about 16 and Captivate’s $19 buys unlimited uploads up to 30,000 downloads.
Is Podbean a Good Libsyn Alternative?
Yes, for a show that publishes a lot of audio. Podbean’s Unlimited Audio plan allows “1GB uploads/mo. (16 hrs audio)” with “Unlimited total storage” and “Unmetered bandwidth” for $17 a month, or $12 a month paid yearly (Podbean pricing).
Unlimited Plus ($39 monthly, $29 yearly) allows 10GB a month (“160 hrs audio or 10 hrs video”); Network ($99 or $79) and Business ($129 or $99) allow 40GB. Dynamic ad insertion is “Available at $1 CPM” on most plans and free on Network. Podbean says unlimited storage and unmetered bandwidth “are subject to Podbean's Fair Usage Policy” and that “paid plans cannot be downgraded back to the free plan.” Its entry plan is audio-only, while Libsyn includes video uploads on every plan.
Is Captivate a Good Libsyn Alternative?
Yes, for shows that want every feature on every plan and accept being metered on downloads. Captivate’s FAQ says “Our plans start at $19 per month and covers you for up to 30,000 downloads”; on yearly billing, Personal is $17 a month, Professional $44 (150,000 downloads) and Business $90 (300,000), all with unlimited podcasts and uploads (Captivate pricing).
The page says all plans include “a no-obligation, 30-day free trial and access to all features within the platform.” If a show exceeds its download limit for a second month in a row, Captivate says “we will reach out and let you know that you need to move to the next tier,” and the show “won't go offline.” It offers no free plan, and students, educational organizations, registered charities and non-profits get 25% off.
Is Transistor a Good Libsyn Alternative?
Yes, for several shows under one account with a modest audience. Transistor’s Starter is $19 a month for unlimited podcasts and 20K monthly downloads; Professional is $49 (100K) and Business $99 (250K). Yearly billing is “12 months for the price of 10” (Transistor pricing).
All three plans list unlimited team members, live customer support, advanced analytics and a built-in podcast website; dynamic show notes and auto-posting to YouTube appear from Professional. If a show consistently goes over its limit, Transistor says “we’ll reach out to you and get you to upgrade,” and “There's no ‘automatic shut off.’” The trial is 14 days.
Is RSS.com a Good Libsyn Alternative?
Yes, for anyone who wants a no-cost start. RSS.com’s Free plan covers one audio podcast with “unlimited episodes, audio and downloads” and “No trial. No expiration. Always free”; Plus is $19.99 a month or $15 billed annually, Pro $34.99 or $26, and Max $49.99 or $37 (RSS.com pricing).
Plus adds ads “with as few as 10 downloads,” paid Apple Podcasts subscriptions, YouTube videos from audio and AI transcripts; Pro hosts up to 10 podcasts and lets you “Keep 70% of ad revenue.” Paid plans carry a 30-day money-back guarantee, and shows that switch “Get three full months free on any paid plan.” On Free, you must “add a credit card before uploading your second episode,” though it is not charged.
What About Buzzsprout?
Buzzsprout meters upload hours like Libsyn, but more generously at entry level: Audio is $18 a month for 6 upload hours, or $15 a month billed annually for 72 hours a year; Audio + Video is $30 or $25; Multi-Podcast is $36 or $30 for up to 5 podcasts (Buzzsprout pricing). The free plan includes “2 hours of free podcast uploads each month” and hosts episodes “for 90 days.”
“Unused upload hours don’t roll over,” and extra time is billed “at your plan’s hourly rate,” which the page does not list. Six hours a month is twice Libsyn Basic’s three. The full comparison is in Best Alternatives to Buzzsprout.
Where Is Libsyn Still the Better Choice?
Libsyn is still the better choice when a show has a large or fast-growing audience and a modest publishing schedule, because its plans are priced on uploads, and it says audience growth brings no “surprise charges or rate increases.” Download-metered hosts such as Captivate (30,000 a month on Personal) and Transistor (20K) can require a move up as listeners grow.
Libsyn also has the lowest monthly-billing entry price here, includes video uploads up to 100GB a month on every plan, and offers YouTube distribution from Basic and Spotify video from Advanced. Its limits are the small audio quota on Basic (3 hours a month), the jump from $25 to $150 between Advanced and Max, a card requirement for the trial, and no published price for Professional or Enterprise.
Who Should Choose Which?
- Few episodes, big audience: Libsyn (metered on uploads).
- Weekly or daily audio: Podbean, with about 16 hours a month from $12 on yearly billing.
- Several shows, smaller audience: Captivate or Transistor.
- Starting with no budget: RSS.com Free, or Buzzsprout’s free plan if 90-day hosting is acceptable.
- Video as well as audio: Libsyn (100GB a month on every plan) or Buzzsprout Audio + Video.
Final Verdict: Which Libsyn Alternative Is Best?
Podbean is the best-value alternative for audio-heavy shows, Captivate for full features on a small audience, and RSS.com for a free start; Libsyn remains the clear fit for large audiences with light publishing. A host stores and distributes your audio; it does not promote the show or grow listeners. For reading the numbers a host reports, see How to Read Podcast Analytics in Apple and Spotify.

Sources and Methodology
This guide is built from the hosts’ own pricing pages and Libsyn’s features page, read October 21, 2026. Monthly-billing prices are compared so the figures are like for like, with annual prices given alongside. Buzzsprout’s monthly prices were read from its pricing page’s monthly view. Captivate’s $19 monthly entry price is from its pricing FAQ; its plan cards show yearly prices, so its higher tiers are given on yearly billing. Transistor’s $19 is its monthly price; its page offers yearly billing at “12 months for the price of 10.” Spreaker was considered but its pricing page could not be read, so it is not covered.
