What Is a Podcast Embed?
A podcast embed is a small player, delivered as an HTML iframe, that lets visitors play an episode on your own page without leaving it. Spotify describes its version this way: “Embeds help you share interactive content from Spotify on a website that you control” (Spotify for Developers). Apple’s player works the same way: “When a user clicks play, the embeddable player will progressively stream the episode from your hosting provider” (Apple Podcasts for Creators).
For a company, the usual place for embeds is the newsroom or press page, next to articles and press releases. When an executive appears as a guest, an embedded episode shows the appearance and lets a reporter or customer hear it in seconds. Our guide to creating an online newsroom covers how that page should be built.
How Do You Embed a Podcast Episode at a Glance?
Choose a platform, copy its embed code for the single episode, paste it into an HTML block, size it, add context and test it. The table covers each step.
| Step | Action | Expected result |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Pick the player: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or the show’s host | One embed that suits your audience and page |
| 2 | Open the exact episode and choose Share, then the embed option | An iframe snippet for that episode, not the whole show |
| 3 | Paste the code into an HTML or embed block on the page | A working player in the page editor preview |
| 4 | Check the height and width against the platform’s published sizes | No cropped controls on desktop or phone |
| 5 | Set a start time or privacy option if the platform offers one | Playback starts at the guest’s segment |
| 6 | Add a headline, date, summary and link to the episode page | A credit readers and search engines can read as text |
| 7 | Publish and test on the live page in two browsers and on a phone | The episode plays from your page |
Time: 10 to 20 minutes per episode. Tools: a browser, access to your site’s editor with an HTML or embed block. Cost: free; the platforms we read do not charge for embed code. Skill level: beginner.
What Do You Need Before Starting?
You need the episode’s public link, a page where your content management system accepts an iframe, and a decision about which player to show. Specifically:
- The episode, not the show. A guest appearance is one episode; copy the episode embed, not the show embed.
- HTML access. Most site builders have a custom HTML, code or embed block. Some newsroom tools strip iframes from press release bodies, so check before you start.
- A tracking plan. If you link out to the episode as well as embedding it, tag the link; our guide to tracking press and podcast links with UTM parameters shows how.
Step 1: Which Player Should You Choose?
Choose the player your audience already uses, and use YouTube when the episode has video and you want people to see the guest. The table below is our comparison of the published docs, not a ranking by any platform. It shows only what each provider’s own pages say, as read on October 29, 2026.
| Feature (our comparison of the published docs) | Apple Podcasts | Spotify | YouTube | Host player (Transistor example) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Where to get the code | Apple Marketing Tools, or share button then “Copy Embed” on podcasts.apple.com | Web player: More options, Share, Embed episode | Share, then Embed | Episodes page, three-dot icon, copy icon |
| Episode and show versions | Compact and Large, for shows and episodes | Episodes, shows and other audio | Videos and playlists | Single Episode, Most Recent Episode, Multi-Episode |
| Published minimum size | Episode: 175px high, 290px wide | None found; sample code 352px high | Viewport at least 200px by 200px | None found |
| Start at a set time | Not documented on the page we read | Custom start point for podcast episodes | ?start= in seconds; end parameter | Not documented on the page we read |
| Video | Large Episode embed plays video episodes | Not documented for podcasts on the pages we read | Yes | Not documented on the page we read |
| Privacy option | Not documented | Not documented | Privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) | Not documented |
| Analytics note | Web embed plays not shown in Apple Podcasts Connect Analytics | Not documented | Autoplayed embeds “don’t increment video views” | Not documented on the page we read |
| oEmbed (paste a link, get a player) | Not documented on the page we read | Yes, open.spotify.com/oembed | Not covered on the pages we read | Transistor’s help center lists an article on using its oEmbed API |
“Not documented” means the page we read is silent, not that the feature is missing. Our recommendation, not a platform rule: use one player per episode; YouTube if the episode has video, otherwise the platform the show promotes or its host’s player. Our guide to creating a YouTube channel for a podcast explains why many shows now publish video.
Step 2: How Do You Copy the Embed Code?
Open the single episode on the platform, open its Share menu, choose the embed option and copy the HTML. The menus differ slightly:
- Apple Podcasts. Open the episode page on podcasts.apple.com, tap the share button and choose “Copy Embed,” then paste the snippet into your website builder or CMS. Apple calls its Marketing Tools “the fastest way to generate an Apple Podcasts embed code for any show or episode” (Apple Podcasts for Creators).
- Spotify. Spotify’s tutorial says to “Open the Spotify Web Player,” “Find and open the content you want to embed,” then “select the More options (...) button, select Share, then select the option beginning with Embed - for example, Embed track or Embed episode.” Next, “Customize the Embed using the available colour and size options,” optionally “select Show code to inspect the generated HTML,” and “Select Copy” (Spotify for Developers).
- YouTube. “On a computer, go to the YouTube video or playlist you want to embed.” Then “From the list of Share options, click Embed” and “From the box that appears, copy the HTML code” (YouTube Help).
- The show’s host. Most hosts offer their own player. Transistor, as one example, says to open the Episodes page, select the three-dot icon by the episode, and “Once the modal window opens, click the “copy” icon to copy the embed code”; it lists “Single Episode,” “Most Recent Episode” and “Multi-Episode (whole podcast feed)” players (Transistor Support). As a guest you do not control the host, so ask the show’s producer for the episode embed if you want this player.
Step 3: Where Do You Paste the Code?
Paste the iframe into an HTML, code or embed block, not a normal text block, at the spot where the player should appear. Spotify’s last steps are “Open your HTML editor and paste the code where you want the Embed to appear” and “Save and deploy your changes” (Spotify for Developers).
Spotify’s sample code shows what a typical snippet contains: a src pointing to open.spotify.com/embed/..., width="100%", height="352", an allow list of “autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture” and loading="lazy". Our recommendation: paste it unedited.
Spotify also offers oEmbed, which returns “HTML of an Embed for this item” from a shared link (Spotify for Developers).
Step 4: Size the Player for Desktop and Phone
Keep each player at or above its platform’s published minimum, and use a percentage width so it shrinks on phones. Apple lists minimum heights of 175px for its Compact and Large Episode Players and 450px for its Show Players, with a 290px minimum width for all four; the Large players have a 425px breakpoint in Apple’s resize table (Apple Podcasts for Creators). YouTube says “Embedded players must have a viewport that is at least 200px by 200px” and that a player with controls must be large enough to fully display them; it recommends 16:9 players “be at least 480 pixels wide and 270 pixels tall” (YouTube IFrame Player API). Spotify lets you adjust “the background color, height, and width of your Embed using the options in the Embed creation menu” (Spotify for Developers).
Player height in pixels, as published
Source: Apple Podcasts for Creators, “Apple Podcasts embed player”; Spotify for Developers, “Creating an Embed” and “oEmbed” reference; YouTube Help, “Embed videos & playlists”; Google for Developers, “YouTube Embedded Players and Player Parameters” (last updated October 15, 2026). Read October 29, 2026.
The rows mix minimums (Apple, YouTube 200 and 270) with heights shown in sample code (Spotify, YouTube 360 and 315); a sample height is an example, not a rule. Apple’s minimum widths are 290px for all four players. Spotify does not publish a minimum height on the pages we read.
The chart shows that episode players need far less height than show players or video, so a press page with several appearances can stack audio episode embeds compactly but should give each video embed a full 16:9 box.
Step 5: Start Playback at the Guest’s Segment
Set a start time where the platform supports one, so the listener lands on your executive rather than the show’s intro. On YouTube, add “?start=” to a video’s embed code, “followed by the time in seconds” (YouTube Help). The player parameters page adds an end parameter, which “specifies the time, measured in seconds from the start of the video” (YouTube IFrame Player API). For Spotify, the embeds overview says that for podcast episodes “you can set a custom start point, allowing listeners to begin listening at a defined point in the show” (Spotify for Developers). Apple’s embed page, as we read it, does not describe a start-time option.
Two YouTube details matter for a newsroom. First, privacy-enhanced mode: “Change the domain for the embed URL in your HTML from https://www.youtube.com to https://www.youtube-nocookie.com.” YouTube says the mode “prevents the use of views of embedded YouTube content from influencing the viewer’s browsing experience” (YouTube Help). Second, related videos: since a 2018 change, “you will not be able to disable related videos”; with rel=0, related videos come from the same channel as the video just played (YouTube IFrame Player API). Expect the show’s other episodes to appear when yours ends.
Avoid autoplay. YouTube Help says “Embedded videos that are autoplayed don’t increment video views,” and most newsroom visitors are reading, not listening.
Step 6: Add Text Around the Player
Put the show name, episode title, date, guest name, a two-sentence summary and a plain link to the episode above or below every embed. The player sits in an iframe, so its title and description belong to the platform’s page, not yours. A text credit gives readers, reporters and search engines something to read on your page. Our explainer on whether podcast audio gets indexed covers why text matters, and if the show publishes a transcript, link to it; our guide to adding transcripts to a podcast explains the formats. Our recommendation, not a platform rule: reuse the show’s own episode summary where you can and credit the host by name.
Step 7: Publish and Test on the Live Page
Publish, then play the episode from the live page on a desktop browser, a second browser and a phone. Check that the player loads, controls are not cropped, the start time works and the link below it opens the right episode.
How Do You Verify It Worked?
Play the episode from your published page and confirm the audio or video starts from the right point. Then check counts with the right expectations. Apple says plays from its web embed are “not displayed in Apple Podcasts Connect Analytics,” because the player streams from the hosting provider (Apple Podcasts for Creators). As a guest you will usually not see the show’s numbers at all; our guide to reading podcast analytics in Apple Podcasts and Spotify explains what show owners can see. Your own web analytics will show visits to the page, not plays inside the iframe.
Common Problems and Fixes
Most embed failures come from the wrong block type, a size below the minimum, or a setting on the platform side.
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The code shows as text on the page | Pasted into a text block | Use an HTML, code or embed block |
| YouTube says the video cannot be played here | The creator unchecked “Allow embedding,” or the video is age-restricted | Link to the video instead, or ask the show to allow embedding; YouTube says “Age-restricted videos can’t be watched on most 3rd party websites” |
| Controls are cut off | Height below the platform minimum | Raise the height to at least 175px for an Apple episode, or a 200px by 200px viewport for YouTube |
| The whole show appears instead of the guest episode | Show embed copied instead of episode embed | Reopen the single episode page and copy its embed |
| Player is blank for some visitors | Content blockers or site security rules blocking third-party frames | Test with blockers off; check your site’s frame and content security settings; always keep the text link |
| Playback starts at the intro | No start parameter, or the platform does not document one | Add ?start= on YouTube or set Spotify’s start point; otherwise state the timestamp in the text |
| Player overflows on phones | Fixed pixel width | Use width="100%", as in Spotify’s sample code |
What Not to Do
Do not download the episode and upload it to your own site. Consequence: you republish someone else’s recording, and plays leave the show’s host. Correction: embed or link to the show’s own copy, or ask the show for permission in writing. This is not legal advice.
Do not set embeds to autoplay. Consequence: visitors get unexpected sound, and YouTube says autoplayed embeds “don’t increment video views.” Correction: let the visitor press play.
Do not rely on the player as your only credit. Consequence: if embedding is switched off or the episode is removed, the page shows an error and nothing else. Correction: keep a text summary and a plain link under every embed.
Do not describe a paid podcast spot as an interview. Consequence: misleading your readers. Correction: if the appearance was a paid or sponsored segment, label it sponsored on your page too.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I embed an Apple Podcasts episode on my website?
Open the episode on podcasts.apple.com, tap the share button, choose “Copy Embed” and paste the snippet into an HTML block. Apple also offers embed codes through Apple Marketing Tools. Apple lists a minimum height of 175px and width of 290px for its episode players.
How do I get the Spotify embed code for a podcast episode?
In the Spotify Web Player, open the episode, select More options (...), then Share, then Embed episode. Adjust the color and size, then select Copy and paste the code into your page, according to Spotify for Developers.
How do I make a YouTube embed start at a certain time?
Add “?start=” to the video’s embed code followed by the time in seconds, according to YouTube Help. YouTube’s player parameters also include an end parameter measured in seconds from the start of the video.
Do embedded podcast plays count in Apple Podcasts analytics?
No. Apple says plays from the Apple Podcasts web embed are not displayed in Apple Podcasts Connect Analytics; the player streams the episode from the show’s hosting provider.
What is YouTube privacy-enhanced mode?
It is an embed option you turn on by changing the embed URL’s domain from www.youtube.com to www.youtube-nocookie.com. YouTube says it prevents views of embedded content from influencing the viewer’s browsing experience.
Why won’t a YouTube podcast episode play on my site?
The creator may have unchecked “Allow embedding” in YouTube Studio, or the video may be age-restricted, which YouTube says can’t be watched on most third-party websites. Link to the video instead.
Which podcast player should I embed on a press page?
There is no platform rule. Our recommendation is one player per episode: YouTube when the episode has video, otherwise the platform the show promotes or the show host’s own player, with a text summary and link beneath it.
Sources and Methodology
This guide is built from the embed documentation published by Apple, Spotify, YouTube and Google for Developers, plus one podcast host’s help article (Transistor), all read on October 29, 2026. The choice of player, the order of steps, the time estimate, the advice to add text credits and avoid autoplay, and the comparison table are our analysis and recommendations, not platform rules; “not documented” in the table means the page we read is silent. We did not test the embeds on a live site, did not measure load times, and did not check every hosting provider’s player.
