EIN Presswire vs PR Newswire: Which Is Better for Distributing a Press Release in 2026?

For a small company that wants a known, low cost per release, EIN Presswire is the better choice: it publishes packages from $149 for one release to $999 for fifteen, each with stated word, image and link limits. PR Newswire is the better choice when reach claims, investor-relations services and paid add-ons matter more than price: it claims distribution to more than 440,000 newsrooms, websites, feeds, journalists and influencers, but publishes no price. Neither guarantees that anyone will cover your news.

What Is EIN Presswire?

EIN Presswire is a self-serve press release distribution service that publishes releases on its own site and syndicates them to news sites, feeds, terminals and its EIN Newsdesk publications, sold in published per-release packages.

Its pricing page says “All press release packages include AP News, Nexstar Media Group and the USA TODAY Network,” and lists major news sites, newswires, Bloomberg Terminals, Muck Rack, Google News, search engines and AI platforms among its channels, several of them “Based on Relevance”. Releases are also emailed to registered EIN Newsdesk readers. A release appearing on a partner domain is not the same as editorial coverage by that outlet; our report on whether a press release on USA Today's site is coverage by USA Today explains the difference.

What Is PR Newswire?

PR Newswire is a long-established, Cision-owned news distribution service that sends company releases to newsrooms, websites and feeds worldwide and sells related communications, investor-relations and amplification services.

Its about page says it was “Founded in 1954 by Herbert Muschel” and “acquired by Cision in 2015”, and that it is available in more than 170 countries and 40 languages. Its product list runs to more than 25 offerings, including Guaranteed Paid Placement, Social Sharing Powered by SocialBoost, ProfNet, MediaRoom, investor-relations websites, earnings webcasts and satellite and radio media tours. We compared it against other large wires in PR Newswire vs Business Wire and PR Newswire vs GlobeNewswire.

With the limited-time bonus release, EIN shows Pro+ at $83.17 per release. PR Newswire's empty bar means no price was published, not a zero cost.

We did not request a PR Newswire quote and do not repeat third-party price estimates. If you need a wire with a published price at the larger end of the market, our Business Wire comparison covers one that publishes a starting price.

Package Limits That Matter

EIN's packages differ mainly in length, media and targeting. Basic allows 700 words, one embedded image, one video, one country target and one industry target. Pro+ allows 1,000 words, three images and five industry targets. Corporate allows 2,500 words, five images and five industry targets. All three allow three keyword anchor-text links and include an ad-free release page, search-optimised title and meta tags, and distribution reports.

PR Newswire does not publish word limits on the pages we read, so it is not charted.

Most releases fit comfortably inside 700 words. Our guide to writing a press release recommends a structure that rarely needs the larger limits.

Editorial Rules and What Gets Refused

EIN Presswire publishes its rules. Its editorial guidelines say “All press releases must contain a clear, timely and newsworthy angle,” that “EIN Presswire will review your press releases before distribution,” and that a release whose primary purpose is to sell “will be denied publication”. It asks clients to “limit your link count to 1 per 100 words” and excludes categories such as weight-loss products. We examined these rules in detail in Will a Wire Service Publish Anything You Pay For?

EIN's terms also say partner channels “may reject any content You submit and may request that We remove Your content,” and that refunds after termination are at its discretion. We did not review PR Newswire's editorial guidelines for this comparison, so we make no claim about how strict they are.

Neither wire is a way to buy ranking credit. In our study of 70 PR Newswire releases in September 2026, all 19 external links in release bodies carried rel=nofollow. We could reach only four EIN Presswire releases in that study and reported no finding for it. EIN's three “keyword anchor text links” may be useful to readers, but its pricing page does not say whether they are followed.

On AI crawlers, our robots.txt check found that neither PR Newswire nor EIN Presswire named any AI user agent in its directives in September 2026. EIN lists “AI/LLM platforms” as a distribution channel, but neither vendor can guarantee that an AI assistant will cite a release.

Where EIN Presswire Wins

  • Published pricing from $149, falling to $66.60 a release on the 15-pack.
  • Stated limits on words, images, videos, links and targeting.
  • Published editorial rules that tell you in advance what will be refused.
  • Industry and country targeting included in every package.
  • Self-serve: no sales call needed to send a release.

Where PR Newswire Wins

  • Stated network size: 440,000-plus newsrooms, websites, feeds, journalists and influencers.
  • Language and country coverage: 40 languages and 170-plus countries claimed.
  • Investor-relations services: IR websites, earnings webcasts and financial distribution.
  • Paid add-ons such as Guaranteed Paid Placement, SocialBoost and media tours.
  • Cision ecosystem: ProfNet and monitoring under one owner.

Who Should Choose EIN Presswire?

Avoid it if: you need regulated financial disclosure, translation into many languages, or a vendor that will also secure placement.

Best for: startups, small businesses and agencies with frequent, routine announcements.

Starting price: $149 for one release (checked October 10, 2026).

Primary strength: low, published cost per release.

Main limitation: partner pages are syndication, not coverage.

Verdict: the stronger choice on price and transparency.

Who Should Choose PR Newswire?

Choose PR Newswire if: you are a listed company, run international announcements, or want distribution, amplification and IR services from one vendor.

Avoid it if: you need a price before a sales conversation or send releases with little news value.

Best for: public companies, large brands and agencies with sizeable budgets.

Starting price: not published.

Primary strength: scale of stated network and breadth of services.

Main limitation: opaque pricing.

Verdict: the stronger choice for reach and financial communications.

Final Verdict: EIN Presswire or PR Newswire?

For a small company sending routine announcements, EIN Presswire is the better buy in October 2026: it publishes a $149 entry price, volume packages down to $66.60 a release, and clear limits and editorial rules. For listed companies and brands that need international reach, investor-relations services and paid amplification under one contract, PR Newswire is the better choice, accepting that its price is only available on request. Neither service guarantees that journalists will write about the news, and in our sample PR Newswire body links passed no ranking credit. Judge either by the coverage that follows, not by the count of partner pages.
