Best Alternatives to Muck Rack in 2026: 6 PR Platforms Compared by Price, Media Database and Monitoring

As of October 2026, the main alternatives to Muck Rack are Cision, Meltwater, Agility PR Solutions, Prezly, Propel and Semrush's AI PR Toolkit; only Semrush and Prezly publish plan prices. Muck Rack itself sells three plans, Starter, Standard and Premier, and every one says “Contact us” on its pricing page. The six alternatives cover the same jobs (finding journalists, pitching, monitoring and reporting) with different emphasis: database size, monitoring breadth, a hosted newsroom, AI-assisted pitching or a price you can see before a sales call. This guide uses each vendor's own pages, read October 19, 2026. Every database or accuracy figure below is a vendor claim, not an independent measurement.

At a Glance

  • Muck Rack lists Starter, Standard and Premier plans for brands and for agencies, each marked “Contact us,” with print and broadcast monitoring, social listening and press release distribution sold as add-ons (Muck Rack).
  • Semrush's AI PR Toolkit lists Base at $149 a month, Pro at $279 and Business at $499, all billed annually, with 250, 500 and 1,000 media-database contacts a month (Semrush).
  • Prezly lists Essential at 100 euros a month and Standard at 250 euros a month, billed annually, and says “Try Prezly 14 days free. No credit card required” (Prezly).
  • Meltwater says it “does not offer a self-serve free trial” and that most contracts are annual, “with a minimum contract length of 12 months” (Meltwater).
  • Agility PR Solutions claims a “1.1M+ contact database at 99.6% accuracy” and lists no prices, saying its “standard billing cycle is annual” (Agility PR).
  • Cision's home page describes CisionOne monitoring of “print, online, TV, radio, social, podcast & magazine coverage” and offers “Request pricing” rather than a price list (Cision).

What Are the Best Alternatives to Muck Rack?

The six alternatives we compared are Cision, Meltwater, Agility PR Solutions, Prezly, Propel and Semrush's AI PR Toolkit. They differ mainly in what they put first: Cision and Meltwater lead with monitoring at enterprise scale, Agility with its contact database, Prezly with a hosted newsroom and email sending, Propel with AI-assisted pitching inside a CRM, and Semrush with a self-serve price list.

Muck Rack describes itself on its pricing page as “a comprehensive, integrated platform to support the entire PR workflow,” with “database, pitching, monitoring and reporting all working together” (Muck Rack). No single alternative is the best replacement for everyone. The right one depends on which of those four jobs you actually use, and whether you need to see a price before talking to sales. Pricing checked October 2026.

What Does Muck Rack Offer, and What Does It Cost?

Muck Rack does not publish prices. Its pricing page shows three plans for brands and three for agencies: Starter (“basic access,” for individuals), Standard (“most popular,” for most PR teams) and Premier (“most flexible,” for enterprises and advanced teams), each with a “Contact us” button. Its FAQ says “Pricing depends on a few factors specific to your team including the number of users” (Muck Rack).

The plan grid lists online article search, alerts by email and Slack, podcast monitoring, a people-and-outlet search, media lists, “Pitching including email integrations and PressPal.ai,” AI-powered journalist recommendations, coverage reports and dashboards. Several items are sold separately: Print and Broadcast Monitoring, Social Listening, Press Release Distribution, an API “Available for Premier customers,” a human-assisted Media Intelligence service, and Generative Pulse, which it says tracks “visibility, sentiment, and trends across leading LLMs.” The grid marks which plan includes what with icons we could not read reliably, so we do not map features to tiers; ask for that in writing.

On data, Muck Rack's media database page says “Our editorial team verifies and refreshes profiles continuously,” and its pricing FAQ says journalists use the platform free and maintain their own profiles (Muck Rack). It gives no journalist count on the pages we read.

How Do Muck Rack and the Six Alternatives Compare on Price?

Two of the seven tools publish prices: Semrush and Prezly. The other five ask you to request a quote or book a demo. The table states what each vendor's page shows and nothing more.

The page shows annual-billing prices only. Prezly's euro prices are not charted because the currency differs. Muck Rack, Cision, Meltwater, Agility PR Solutions and Propel publish no prices, so they cannot be charted.

The chart shows that Semrush's toolkit runs from $149 to $499 a month on annual billing, the only three-tier dollar price list among the seven tools; it cannot show how that compares with Muck Rack, which quotes privately.

What Is Cision, and When Does It Fit?

Cision is an enterprise PR suite that pairs monitoring with wire distribution. Its home page says CisionOne lets users “Stay on top of print, online, TV, radio, social, podcast & magazine coverage, all in real time,” and lists PR Distribution & Placement, Investor Relations and Content Production & Multimedia under PR Newswire (Cision). It shows no prices and no database size on that page.

Cision fits larger teams that want monitoring and distribution from one vendor. Muck Rack sells distribution and broadcast monitoring as add-ons, so the comparison turns on what each quote includes. For a head-to-head, see Muck Rack vs Cision and Cision vs Meltwater.

What Is Meltwater, and When Does It Fit?

Meltwater is a media intelligence platform sold in four plans, Starter, Pro, Enterprise and Agency. Its pricing page says “Meltwater uses tailored pricing,” that it “does not offer a self-serve free trial” (it offers a guided demo instead), and that “most partnerships are structured on annual agreements, with a minimum contract length of 12 months” (Meltwater).

The page lists Media Intelligence, Social listening, AI Visibility Tracking and Media Relations among its modules, with Influencer Marketing on Enterprise and Agency. It gives no source counts. Meltwater fits teams that want social listening and media monitoring in one contract and can commit for a year. See also Meltwater vs Muck Rack.

What Is Agility PR Solutions, and When Does It Fit?

Agility PR Solutions states the largest contact-database figure of the tools here. Its home page claims a “1.1M+ contact database at 99.6% accuracy” and says it indexes “2B+ news items a year across online, print, broadcast, podcast, radio, social.” It also sells Visibility Intelligence, described as a way to “See how ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini describe your brand,” and a newswire with a “Flat fee, unlimited words” (Agility PR).

The page gives no method for the accuracy rate. Its plans page lists no prices; it says it provides “detailed pricing based on your goals” after a form, and that newswire distribution is an add-on to Media Relations (Agility PR). Agility fits teams that want a large database and broadcast monitoring and will accept a quote.

What Is Prezly, and When Does It Fit?

Prezly is a newsroom and outreach tool rather than a journalist database. Its pricing page lists Essential at 100 euros a month and Standard at 250 euros a month, both billed annually, with Enterprise custom. Essential allows one user, one site and up to 5,000 contacts; Standard two users, white-label sites, localization and sending from your own domain, with up to 10,000 contacts (Prezly).

Neither a journalist database nor media monitoring appears in Prezly's plan lists, so it does not replace that part of Muck Rack. It fits teams that already have media lists and want a branded newsroom, email sending and analytics at a visible price, with a 14-day trial. Our Prowly vs Muck Rack guide covers a related product, and alternatives to Prowly covers Prezly for small teams.

What Is Propel, and When Does It Fit?

Propel is an AI-first PR platform. Its home page says “Propel AI is the first LLM built for PR, serving in-house teams and agencies,” and describes a media database, a CRM with Gmail and Outlook plug-ins, and monitoring of news sites, social platforms and “thousands of monitored TV and radio stations” (Propel). “First” is the vendor's claim. Its pricing page names Essentials (one user), Pro (up to four) and Premium (up to seven), each with unlimited contacts and pitches, but shows no prices (Propel).

Two cautions. The home page gives its journalist count as “500K+” in one place and “1M journalists” in another, and its article count as “2B+” and “3B,” so we repeat neither as fact. It also makes performance claims such as “2x your journalist response rate” without a method. Propel fits small teams that want AI drafting inside a CRM and will ask for a quote.

What Is Semrush's AI PR Toolkit, and When Does It Fit?

Semrush's AI PR Toolkit, the product Prowly's own home page says it has become (“Prowly is now the Semrush AI PR Toolkit”), is the only tool here with a public three-tier dollar price list (Prowly). Base is $149 a month billed annually with 250 media-database contacts a month; Pro is $279 with 500; Business is $499 with 1,000 and “50,000 media mentions to monitor per month.” Additional users cost $20 a month (Semrush).

Semrush's toolkit page says Media Monitoring is “Available on Business and Pro plans” and describes a database of “over 1 million journalist profiles” (Semrush). The monthly contact caps are the main limit for heavy pitching. It fits teams that want a price they can check today.

Where Is Muck Rack Still the Better Choice?

Muck Rack is still the better choice for teams that want journalist search, pitching, monitoring and reporting in one product and value journalist-maintained profiles. The specific points below come from its own pages; the judgments are ours.

  • One integrated workflow. Database, pitching, monitoring and coverage reports sit in one platform, where Prezly lacks a database and Semrush caps database contacts a month.
  • Journalist-maintained data. Journalists use Muck Rack free and keep their own profiles, alongside an editorial team that “verifies and refreshes profiles continuously.” Muck Rack's FAQ calls itself “the only database where reporters actively maintain their own information,” a vendor claim we did not test.
  • AI-answer tracking next to pitching. AI Visibility Badges mark journalists and outlets that appear often as cited sources in AI responses, and Generative Pulse tracks LLM visibility (Muck Rack).

Muck Rack's own FAQ is candid about the weak spot: “Solo practitioners often find alternatives better suited to sporadic usage patterns,” though it points them to its Starter tier (Muck Rack). If print, broadcast or social monitoring matters, confirm whether those add-ons are in your quote; Cision, Agility and Propel describe broadcast monitoring on their own pages.

Which Alternative Should You Choose?

Choose by job, not by brand. These are our recommendations, not vendor statements.

  • You need a price today: Semrush or Prezly, the only two with public plan prices.
  • You need a newsroom and email sending, not a database: Prezly.
  • You want the largest stated contact database: Agility, whose 1.1M+ figure is a vendor claim.
  • You want monitoring across broadcast, social and print under one contract: Cision or Meltwater, after a demo.
  • You want AI drafting inside a CRM: Propel, after confirming its database size in writing.
  • You use database, pitching and monitoring every week: get a Muck Rack quote before switching, so you compare like with like.

A tool finds contacts and tracks coverage; it does not secure coverage, and no vendor page we read promises placements. Whatever you buy, check a sample of contacts by hand, as in our guide to building a media list.

How We Compared Muck Rack and Its Alternatives

We read each vendor's own pricing, product or home page on October 19, 2026. Muck Rack's pages block automated readers, so we read them in a standard browser; its pricing FAQ answers are collapsed on the live page, and we quote them from the Internet Archive's August 11, 2026 copy of the same page, whose plan names and add-ons match the live page. We did not trial any product, and every database size, accuracy rate and performance figure is the vendor's own.
