What Are the Best Alternatives to PR Newswire?
The six alternatives we could verify on their own pages are Business Wire, GlobeNewswire, ACCESS Newswire, Newswire.com, EIN Presswire and PRWeb. Business Wire, GlobeNewswire and ACCESS Newswire describe financial and disclosure services alongside PR distribution, which makes them the closest substitutes for a listed company. Newswire.com, EIN Presswire and PRWeb sell published per-release packages aimed at web and news-site syndication.
Two relationships matter. PRWeb's pricing page carries a Cision US Inc. copyright and says its syndication network is “powered by PRNewswire” (PRWeb), and PR Newswire's own pages carry the same Cision copyright. Newswire.com lists ACCESS Newswire, Newswire and PressRelease.com under “Our Brands” (Newswire.com), so those two are sister services.

What Is PR Newswire, and What Does It Sell?
PR Newswire is Cision's newswire, sold through a demo and quote rather than a rate card. Its distribution page says “Costs vary based on distribution scope, geographic reach and additional services such as multimedia, targeting and amplification channels,” and claims reach to “440,000+ newsrooms, direct feeds and subscribers, including 270,000+ journalists and influencers and 9,000+ websites and digital media outlets,” with targeting by countries (“more than 170 in over 40 languages”), states, industries and beats (PR Newswire). Its home page uses a different figure, “500K+ media outlets, newsrooms and influencers worldwide” (PR Newswire). Neither number comes with a method.
For listed companies, its investor relations page says it can “Publish news to 6,400+ financial, news and research websites” via its “full disclosure networks,” target “400,000+ investors and analysts” with Market Lists, and that its staff “manage over 40,000 IR releases per year” (PR Newswire). The distribution page also says its editorial team “reviews over 325,000 press releases annually.” Head-to-head comparisons: PR Newswire vs Business Wire, PR Newswire vs GlobeNewswire and EIN Presswire vs PR Newswire.
What Do the Alternatives Cost?
Five of the six alternatives publish a price for one release, from $120 at PRWeb to $475 at Business Wire and ACCESS Newswire for an entry tier. Pricing checked October 2026.
US dollars per release, entry tier
Source: Business Wire, “Business Wire Pricing & Distribution Plans”; ACCESS Newswire, “Submit a Press Release”; Newswire.com, “Pricing”; EIN Presswire, “Press Release Pricing & Comparison Chart”; PRWeb, “Pricing.” Read October 19, 2026.
Entry tiers are not like for like: they differ in word limits and named outlets. PR Newswire and GlobeNewswire are not charted because neither publishes a price. ACCESS Newswire's home page FAQ says its prices “start at $415”; its pricing page shows $475, the figure charted.
The chart shows that the budget services undercut the quote-based wires' published entry points by up to $355, but each entry tier buys a different word limit and outlet list. For what drives the price beyond the entry tier, including bundles and use-by windows, see How Much Does a Press Release Cost to Distribute in 2026?
Business Wire: the Closest Like-for-Like Rival
Business Wire is the alternative most similar to PR Newswire in structure, and unlike PR Newswire it publishes a starting price: $475 for 400 words of U.S. domestic local distribution. Its pricing page says cost depends on “word count, geographic circuit, and any enhancements such as multimedia or translation,” and lists what every release includes, among them financial tables, analytics reports and “Expert Editorial Review” (Business Wire). Its investor relations page calls it “A TSX-approved newswire” and describes Canadian, UK and European disclosure services (Business Wire).
Fits: a listed or private company that wants a disclosure-grade wire and a public starting price. Limit: anything beyond a 400-word local release is quoted.
GlobeNewswire: Wire Distribution Plus SEC Filing
GlobeNewswire is Notified's newswire. Its distribution page says it distributes “across more than 1,000 newslines, 158 countries and 35 languages” within “Notified's Content OS platform” (GlobeNewswire). Its regulatory page lists EDGAR Direct, which lets a company “file the wire version of your press release with the SEC on Form 8-K or 6-K” at “flat-rate pricing,” plus EDGAR Complete, SEDAR filing, XBRL conversion and a European service “approved by financial regulators in the UK and France” (GlobeNewswire).
Fits: a listed company that wants distribution and SEC filing from one vendor. Limit: like PR Newswire, no published price, so there is no saving to calculate without a quote.
ACCESS Newswire: Published Prices for National Tiers
ACCESS Newswire (the service many buyers know as Accesswire; its site is accessnewswire.com) publishes prices for national and financial-grade tiers. Budget is $475, National is $865 and adds Yahoo! Finance, AP and broker terminals, and US Premium is $1,205 and adds Business Insider and specialty circuits; every plan includes “unlimited word count, hyperlinks, graphics, and multimedia at no additional fees” (ACCESS Newswire). It also sells PR subscriptions from $920 a month that bundle one release a month with a media database and monitoring (ACCESS Newswire), and an IR platform with IR websites, earnings webcasts and “disclosure tools” (ACCESS Newswire).
Fits: a company that wants a published price for national and financial distribution. Limit: its pages do not name the specific filings its disclosure tools support, and its home page FAQ ($415) and pricing page ($475) disagree on the starting price; we suggest relying on the pricing page and confirming at checkout.
Newswire.com: Flat Prices With Unlimited Words
Newswire.com prices three national tiers and a state tier per release, and says “These prices cover unlimited words and images.” Starter is $399, “Published to Digital Journal and Online News & Media”; Basic is $659, “Distributed to AP News, Digital Journal, and more”; Feature is $965 and “Includes AP News, Yahoo, Nexstar, and major outlets.” Its reach bands of 6 to 10 million, 75 to 100 million and 150 to 200 million monthly readers are vendor estimates, and its $599 state tier is marked “Not for regulatory distro” (Newswire.com).
Fits: a private company that wants named-outlet syndication at a known price. Limit: no disclosure service on its pricing page; compare it with its sister brand ACCESS Newswire before buying either.
EIN Presswire: Lowest Cost for Frequent Releases
EIN Presswire sells bundles. Basic is $149 for one release of up to 700 words; Pro+ is $499 for five at 1,000 words, with a sixth free as a “limited-time offer”; Corporate is $999 for 15 at 2,500 words, or $66.60 each. “Press releases may be issued within 1 year from the date of purchase,” and every package lists “AP News, Nexstar Media Group and the USA TODAY Network” plus Bloomberg Terminals and Google News (EIN Presswire).
Fits: a small company issuing releases often. Limit: word caps by package, and no regulatory distribution described on its pricing page.
PRWeb: Cision's Lower-Cost Option
PRWeb has the lowest published entry price. Basic is $120 “per news release” with keyword tagging and unlimited media assets; Standard ($245) adds “Syndication to our network of 1200+ websites powered by PRNewswire”; Advanced ($360) adds email to “ONE of our industry-curated journalist lists” and proofreading; Premium ($480) adds “Distribution to Sovrn's content recommended network.” Turnaround is 48 hours on the two lower tiers and 24 hours on the two higher ones (PRWeb).
Fits: a buyer who wants PR Newswire's syndication network at a published price for an online-visibility release. Limit: it is an online product, not a disclosure wire, and it shares PR Newswire's owner.
Where Is PR Newswire Still the Better Choice?
PR Newswire remains the stronger choice when scale and disclosure matter more than a public price. Its own pages claim the largest audience figures of any service here, targeting in more than 170 countries, 6,400+ financial websites through disclosure networks and IR releases in the tens of thousands a year (PR Newswire; PR Newswire). Those are vendor claims without published methods, and Business Wire and GlobeNewswire describe comparable disclosure services, but none of the budget wires describes disclosure at all. A multinational release or an earnings release is where PR Newswire's quote is worth getting.
The budget services are the better choice for a private company's single announcement on a fixed budget. Whether any product satisfies a disclosure rule that applies to your company is a question for the vendor, in writing, and for counsel. This is not legal advice.
Who Should Choose Which Alternative?
These are our recommendations, not vendor statements.
- Quote-based wire with a published starting point: Business Wire.
- SEC filing alongside distribution: GlobeNewswire, which lists EDGAR, SEDAR and XBRL services.
- Published price for national and financial tiers: ACCESS Newswire National ($865) or US Premium ($1,205).
- Named outlets, unlimited words, private company: Newswire.com Basic ($659) or Feature ($965).
- Frequent, low-cost releases: EIN Presswire bundles, used within a year.
- Lowest entry price on PR Newswire's network: PRWeb Standard ($245) or Basic ($120).

Final Verdict: Is There a Cheaper Alternative to PR Newswire?
On published prices, yes for a simple release, but not provably for a disclosure release. PRWeb, EIN Presswire and Newswire.com list entry tiers from $120 to $399, and ACCESS Newswire publishes national tiers up to $1,205. Because PR Newswire publishes no price, any saving can only be calculated against its quote. Get that quote for the exact words, circuit and multimedia you need, and compare it with the rate cards above.

Sources and Methodology
This comparison is built from each vendor's own pricing, distribution and investor relations pages, read on October 19, 2026. Business Wire and ACCESS Newswire block automated readers and were read in a standard browser; GlobeNewswire's pages could not be opened directly and were read from Internet Archive copies dated October 1, 2026 (distribution) and June 25, 2026 (regulatory filing). All reach, outlet and release counts are vendor claims without published methods, and PR Newswire's own pages give two different reach figures.
