What Are the Best Alternatives to Cision in 2026?
The six alternatives we compared are Muck Rack, Meltwater, Agility PR Solutions, Prezly, Propel and Semrush's AI PR Toolkit. They differ on three points: whether the price is published, whether the product is a monitoring suite or a journalist database and outreach tool, and whether wire distribution comes from the same vendor. The table states what each vendor's own pages say and nothing more. Pricing checked October 2026.
| Platform | Published price | Database or monitoring claim on its own page | Distribution | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cision (CisionOne) | None; “Request pricing” | Monitoring of “print, online, TV, radio, social, podcast & magazine coverage”; no database size stated | PR Newswire in the same group | Cision |
| Muck Rack | None; three plans, all “Contact us” | Journalist database, pitching, online and podcast monitoring; print, broadcast and social listening are add-ons | Press release distribution add-on | Muck Rack |
| Meltwater | None; tailored quotes, 12-month minimum on most contracts | Media Intelligence, Social listening, AI Visibility Tracking and Media Relations in all four plans | Not on the pricing page | Meltwater |
| Agility PR Solutions | None; quote after a form, billed annually as standard | “1.1M+ contact database at 99.6% accuracy”; “2B+ news items indexed annually” | Newswire, sold as an add-on | Agility PR |
| Prezly | Essential 100 euros, Standard 250 euros a month, billed annually; Enterprise custom | Your own contacts, up to 5,000 or 10,000; no journalist database in the plan lists | Email sending and hosted newsroom | Prezly |
| Propel | None; Essentials, Pro and Premium without prices | Media database (counts given inconsistently); 10, 25 or 50 monitoring alerts by plan | Not described as a wire | Propel |
| Semrush AI PR Toolkit | Base $149, Pro $279, Business $499 a month, billed annually | “over 1 million journalist profiles”; monitoring on Pro and Business | Email outreach, not a wire | Semrush |
What Do Cision and the Alternatives Cost?
Two of the seven tools publish prices: Semrush's AI PR Toolkit and Prezly. Semrush lists Base at $149 a month, Pro at $279 and Business at $499, billed annually, with 250, 500 and 1,000 media-database contacts a month and additional users at $20 a month (Semrush). Prezly lists Essential at 100 euros and Standard at 250 euros a month, billed annually, with Enterprise priced on request (Prezly). Everyone else, Cision included, starts with a sales conversation.

Annual-billing prices as shown on the page. Prezly's euro prices are not charted because the currency differs. Cision, Muck Rack, Meltwater, Agility PR Solutions and Propel publish no prices, so they cannot be charted.
The chart shows the only three-tier dollar price list among the seven tools; it cannot show how any of them compares with Cision, which quotes privately. We do not repeat third-party estimates of Cision's, Muck Rack's or Meltwater's prices, because none of those vendors publishes one. Our recommendation, not a vendor rule: ask two or three vendors to quote the same scope (users, monitoring sources, distribution) in writing and compare those.
What Is Cision, and Where Does It Still Win?
Cision is an enterprise communications suite whose main platform, CisionOne, combines monitoring, reporting, journalist outreach and social listening. Its home page says CisionOne lets users “Stay on top of print, online, TV, radio, social, podcast & magazine coverage, all in real time,” lists CisionOne AI and AI Visibility among its products, and places PR Newswire (PR Distribution & Placement, Investor Relations, Content Production & Multimedia), Trajaan Search Intelligence (“Search Intelligence and GenAI Monitoring”) and Brandwatch (“Consumer Intelligence & Social Media Management suite”) alongside it (Cision). It states no database size on that page, so we claim none.
That breadth is where Cision stays strongest. It is the only vendor here in the same company group as a major wire, so a team that wants outreach, broadcast-inclusive monitoring and a PR Newswire release under one relationship can get it. Agility also sells a newswire, and Muck Rack sells distribution as an add-on, but neither is PR Newswire. For listed companies with disclosure needs, our PR Newswire vs Business Wire and alternatives to PR Newswire guides cover the wire side. For direct head-to-heads, see Muck Rack vs Cision and Cision vs Meltwater.
Is Muck Rack a Good Cision Alternative?
Muck Rack is the closest alternative for teams whose main jobs are journalist search and pitching, but it quotes privately just as Cision does. Its pricing page shows Starter (“basic access,” for individuals), Standard (“most popular,” for most PR teams) and Premier (“most flexible,” for enterprises), each marked “Contact us,” and calls itself “a comprehensive, integrated platform to support the entire PR workflow” (Muck Rack).
The difference that matters against Cision is scope. Muck Rack's plan grid covers online article search, alerts, podcast monitoring, media lists, pitching and reports, while Print and Broadcast Monitoring, Social Listening and Press Release Distribution are sold as add-ons. A team that needs TV and radio clips should confirm those add-ons are in the quote. On data, Muck Rack says journalists use the platform free and maintain their own profiles, and its FAQ calls it “the only database where reporters actively maintain their own information,” a vendor claim we did not test. Our alternatives to Muck Rack guide covers it in more detail.
Is Meltwater a Good Cision Alternative?
Meltwater is the closest match to Cision on breadth of monitoring, with the same quote-only buying process. Its pricing page shows four plans, Starter, Pro, Enterprise and Agency, each listing Media Intelligence, Social listening, AI Visibility Tracking and Media Relations, with Influencer Marketing added on Enterprise and Agency. It says Meltwater “does not offer a self-serve free trial,” offers “a free, human-guided demo,” and that “most partnerships are structured on annual agreements, with a minimum contract length of 12 months”; complex setups may carry a one-time implementation or onboarding charge (Meltwater).
Meltwater's pricing page gives no database or source counts, and wire distribution is not among its listed modules. It fits teams that want social listening and media monitoring in one contract and do not need a wire from the same vendor. See alternatives to Meltwater for how it compares with other monitoring platforms.
What Does Agility PR Solutions Offer?
Agility PR Solutions is the alternative that most closely copies Cision's mix of database, monitoring and distribution. Its home page lists Media Relations, Media Monitoring, Media Intelligence Services, Social Listening, Newswire and Visibility Intelligence, the last described as a way to “See how ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini describe your brand.” It claims a “1.1M+ contact database at 99.6% accuracy” and “2B+ news items indexed annually,” and says “Every number above is verifiable in a 30-minute demo” (Agility PR).
The page gives no method for the accuracy rate. Agility's plans page lists no prices, says it will “provide detailed pricing based on your goals,” states that “Our standard billing cycle is annual,” and lists newswire distribution as an add-on (Agility PR). Its newswire is described as “Flat fee, unlimited words, broad pickup”; we did not compare its reach with PR Newswire's.
What Does Prezly Offer, and What Does It Cost?
Prezly is a newsroom and outreach tool, not a monitoring suite or journalist database. Essential (100 euros a month, billed annually) allows one site, one user and up to 5,000 contacts; Standard (250 euros) adds a second user, white-label sites, localization and sending from your own domain, with up to 10,000 contacts; Enterprise adds single sign-on, a 99% uptime SLA and 24/7 support (Prezly).
The contact limits count contacts you bring, so Prezly does not replace Cision's outreach database or its monitoring. It fits a team that already has media lists and wants a branded newsroom and email sending at a visible price, with a 14-day trial. Our alternatives to Prowly guide compares it with other small-team tools.
What Is Semrush's AI PR Toolkit, and Is It Prowly?
Yes. Prowly's own home page says “Prowly is now the Semrush AI PR Toolkit” and “Your trusted PR platform, reimagined as part of Semrush” (Prowly). Semrush's knowledge base describes the toolkit as “Designed for marketers,” with AI-Cited Media (outlets “cited most often by language models”), a database of “over 1 million journalist profiles,” email outreach with open and click tracking, and media monitoring “across news, blogs, Reddit, and YouTube,” which is “Available on Business and Pro plans” (Semrush).
It is the only alternative here with a public three-tier dollar price list, but the monthly database-contact caps (250, 500 or 1,000) limit heavy pitching, and it does not include wire distribution or broadcast monitoring on the pages we read. It fits marketers already inside Semrush. Our earlier Prowly vs Muck Rack guide predates the move into Semrush.
What Does Propel Offer?
Propel is an AI-first PR platform. Its home page says “Propel AI is the first LLM built for PR, serving in-house teams and agencies,” and describes an AI-powered media database, a PR CRM with Gmail and Outlook plug-ins, ROI analytics and monitoring that includes “thousands of monitored TV and radio stations” (Propel). “First” is the vendor's claim. Its pricing page names Essentials (one user), Pro (up to four) and Premium (up to seven), with unlimited contacts and pitches and 10, 25 or 50 online and print monitoring alerts, but no prices (Propel).
Two cautions. The home page gives its journalist count as “500K+” in one place and “1M journalists” in another, and its article count as “2B+” and “3B,” so we repeat neither as fact. It also makes performance claims, such as “2x your journalist response rate,” without a method. Ask Propel which figures apply before relying on any.
Who Should Choose Which Platform?
Choose by the job you actually do each week. These are our recommendations, not vendor statements.
- Stay with or choose Cision if you want broadcast-inclusive monitoring, outreach and PR Newswire distribution from one company group and can run a sales process.
- Choose Muck Rack if journalist search and pitching are the core job and you value journalist-maintained profiles; price the print, broadcast and distribution add-ons.
- Choose Meltwater if monitoring across news and social is the main job and you accept a 12-month contract.
- Choose Agility PR if you want a database, monitoring and a newswire from one vendor and will test its figures in the demo it offers.
- Choose Prezly if you need a branded newsroom and email sending at a published price and already have media lists.
- Choose Semrush's AI PR Toolkit if you want a price you can check today and a view of which outlets AI models cite.
- Choose Propel if you want AI drafting inside a PR CRM and can get consistent database figures in writing.
Final Verdict: Is There a Better Choice Than Cision?
It depends on the job, and published pages cannot settle it. Cision remains the better fit for teams that want a wire, broadcast-inclusive monitoring and outreach in one place. The alternatives win on narrower scope, on a visible price (Semrush and Prezly only) or on a specific feature such as AI-cited media lists or a hosted newsroom. Because five of the seven tools publish no price, the practical step is to request like-for-like quotes. No tool here promises coverage: a database finds contacts and a wire distributes a release, but editors decide what runs. Whatever you buy, check a sample of contacts by hand, as in our guide to building a media list.
How We Compared Cision and Its Alternatives
We read each vendor's own home, pricing or help page on October 19, 2026 and recorded only what the page stated: price, plan names, database and monitoring claims. Muck Rack's pages block automated readers; we quote its pricing page from the Internet Archive's August 11, 2026 capture, whose plans and add-ons match the live page as read in a browser for our Muck Rack alternatives guide the same day. Vendor figures are the vendors' claims and were not tested. We did not trial any product or use review-site scores.
